Mandie’s Easy Fried Cabbage and Noodles

It’s no secret that I like to cook, BUT only if the dish is something I can whip up without a recipe. I have to be able to easily memorize the ingredients, or I’m probably not going to make it again.

For that reason, I’ll try to share recipes that you too can throw the together without measuring anything. I mean, who has time for that? Americans don’t even know the metric system, thanks to Thomas Jefferson (and Ronald Regan…but that’s another story).

So, without further ado, here is my Easy Cabbage and Noodles!

1 head of cabbage (I use organic)
1 onion
Butter
1 package of bacon
1 bag of egg noodles
Garlic (2-3 cloves)
Salt and pepper to taste

1. Cook about a pound of bacon in a large fry pan until it’s crispy. Remove the bacon, but leave the grease in the pan. This will be your base for the fried cabbage. Call a loved one into the kitchen to snack on the bacon with you. They’ll thank me later. 🙂
2. Chop up your onion and cabbage. Throw them into the large fry pan with bacon grease on low-medium heat. Let it cook down for about 10-15 minutes then turn the heat off. The cabbage should be soft and tender.
3. In a separate pot, boil some water for your egg noodles. Throw in about half the bag and cook until al dente, about six minutes. You can cook more noodles if you want, but anything over a half a bag starts to overwhelm the cabbage ratio. Up to you. 🙂
4. Drain the noodles and add them to the cabbage in the frying pan. Turn up the heat and add some butter. Then add some more. I end up using a whole stick. This is a judgment-free zone.
5. Crush some garlic and throw it in. Add salt and pepper to taste and cook the whole dish for about 5-8 more minutes or until your cabbage starts to turn crispy on the edges (to preference).
6. Serve hot. Enjoy.

Love,
Mandie ❤️
